No doubt, the upcoming visit from Pope Francis will be a wonderful Catholic moment! People are clamoring to make final plans, get tickets, pack bags, and meet friends at the events. All of us are hoping that at some point, through some miracle, we might get close to Pope Francis. What would it be like if we could touch him, talk to him, take a selfie with him? The chances of this happening are not good, but we trust that making the pilgrimage to be with him, even in a crowd of 1 million other pilgrims, will bestow many blessings and graces upon us.
And what about when Pope Francis leaves to go back to the Vatican? Who will create the excitement about being Catholic, about being a follower of Jesus Christ, about serving the poor? Who will spread the message of forgiveness and humility, of being non-judgmental, of taking care of our world? The mission, the job, the challenge is for each of us – we need to continue to be an extension of Pope Francis – we need to be the Catholic voice to all with whom we meet – to bring Jesus Christ and his Gospel message each day.
Pope Francis is changing the world – we can too!
