Congratulations to Daniel Gorman for being awarded the Connolly Foundation Neumann Scholar! Daniel is the 4th St. Patrick student in 4 years to be awarded this prestigious award. Here are some of the facts:

  • There are 123 Catholic elementary schools with 4600 8th graders in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
  • 1429 8th graders received an invitation to take the exam (this invitation is based on 7th grade Terra Nova scores as well as as general average of 92 or above for the first trimester of 8th grade)
  • Of those invited, 857 took the test
  • There were 37 winners – or the top 4% – of the 8th grade class, awarded the scholarship
  • The Neumann Scholarship is worth 4 years of tuition at an Archdiocesan High School – or $25,800.00

Way to go, Daniel – we are so very proud of you! Go Warriors!!

It’s All in a Heartbeat!

Image                    Image

2nd grade began the week with a trip to the Science lab. They have been studying a unit on Health and Hygiene and the lesson today was “Fitness and Health.” The lesson focused on listening to their own heartbeat after sitting, walking around and jogging in place. Patrick said: “a fun thing about the lesson was learning about hearts and counting the heartbeats.” Sam expressed that “the listening to the heartbeat  was fun, but the stethoscope hurt my ear.” Declan shared that he had never used a stethoscope before so it was cool to use and hear his heart. Overall, the class had fun exploring heart beats – perhaps there are a few doctors, nurses or heart surgeons in the group?
